Camera Cases
Camera cases and bags come in all shapes and sizes and are designed to fit a variety of photography equipment. A good camera case will not only protect your equipment from getting beat up during travel and damaged by dust or moisture, it is also a very convenient way of storing your camera and accessories. Even though there are many different styles of camera cases and bags out there, there really are only two main types: those designed for point and shoots and those for SLR cameras and lenses. Here are some good rules of thumb for selecting the right camera case for you. For the simple point-and-shoot camera, it is best to choose a compact camera case made of padded closed-cell foam, rigid thermo-molded plastic or even good leather. My personal favorite is the thermo-molded case. It is crush resistant and less bulky than the foam cases. They also have a lining for protecting your camera from scratches. You can get a nice quality case rather cheap by searching around for the best deal. I like to check out Nextag and Ebay; they almost always have the best deals around.
For larger SLR cameras, you might choose a triangular camera case, as they have much more room and can accommodate quite a bit of equipment as well. These camera cases can also be used for video equipment. If you don’t want to go the triangular route, you can always choose a rectangular case. The rectangular case can also be a camcorder case and has adjustable dividers and several pockets for accessories. If you prefer neither, fanny packs and backpacks are also viable options. In fact, backpacks offer the best protection and are by far the most comfortable to transport your equipment. For the photographer that spends a lot of time in or around water, you should consider getting a waterproof camera case or for extra protection. Nowadays, you can choose from a simple three-roll closure waterproof bag or a hard-shelled waterproof box. Waterproof camera cases can be on the costly side, so it is best to shop around. If you do your research you will find many camera cases that won’t break the bank.
