Disposable Camera
The standard disposable camera has been around for many years. Serving as a cheap alternative to a higher cost film camera, travelers especially found them to be very affordable and convenient to use while on the go. Disposable cameras also provide children with a great low-cost picture taking experience. However, like everything else, technology is changing the disposable camera business. With the price of digital cameras coming down in recent years, it is no surprise that the digital industry has now provided consumers with a digital alternative to single use film cameras. Depending on where you live in the country, you may or may not have access to the new digital disposable cameras. Ritz Camera and Wolf Camera retail stores market the Dakota Digital single use camera. Selling at approximately $11 each, these are perfect starter cameras for anyone interested in trying digital technology at an affordable cost. Fuji and Kodak also sell disposable digital cameras that average around $8 each.
Now lets look that the pros and cons of a digital disposable camera versus a standard disposable camera. The Dakota Digital for example, captures 25 pictures, which is about the same as a standard disposable. The digital disposable camera runs on AA batteries, which is an added expense to the user. However, it also features auto flash and a self-timer. The disposable digital camera does not have an LCD screen for viewing images. However, the digital disposable camera does have a delete feature allowing for users to delete photos they know will not turn out after they took it (sudden movement, eyes blinking etc.). This is obviously an added benefit that the standard disposable camera does not provide.
The biggest benefit of the disposable digital camera is that you get the photos developed automatically onto a photo CD, and it costs relatively the same amount of money as standard photo development. In some cases it actually costs less than printing photos from a standard disposable camera. However, if you prefer to have someone else do the printing of your pictures, or do not have access to a printer suitable for printing photos, a standard disposable camera might be more suited for you. Technology has obviously come a long way. It all comes down to what you are comfortable with. If you want digital quality photographs without spending a lot of money, then a digital disposable camera may be right for you.
