Underwater Cameras
There are many reasons that the underwater camera was invented, for business and for leisure. Marine biologists and scientists use underwater cameras for discovery and research purposes. However, for the average person, cameras are for creating memories. In fact, when most people think of the beach, they think of capturing fun moments on the sand with their friends and family. However, what about the people that spend their leisure time in the water? Is there a way for water enthusiasts to capture their memories? Underwater cameras can do just that. First of all, and to me most importantly, you must know that your basic waterproof camera is not an underwater camera. There is a huge difference. However, before you rush out and purchase an expensive underwater camera, there are a few things you should know. You can take the camera you already have and turn it into an underwater camera, quite cheaply I might add. If you want to use your standard digital camera underwater, you must buy an underwater casing for it. An underwater casing will turn any digital camera into an underwater camera. There are many underwater camera cases available from companies such as Sony or Nikon.
Once you have purchased a casing, make sure you take the time to check for leaks. Submerge the camera in water for a few seconds and then inspect for leaks. It is vitally important that the camera and casing be clean, as dirt and grime, or even strands of hair will break the seal, thus ending in damage to your camera. If you desire additional options such as macro lenses, you can easily add them when you purchase your casing kit. If you purchase an underwater camera outright, they will usually come with several lenses.
Getting the most out of your newly formed underwater camera can be a challenge. For example, it is best to use external flash under water. If you use the built in internal flash you will get what the industry calls, marine show phenomenon. Another key factor in getting the best quality pictures is to adjust your zoom and picture angle, as photos taken underwater will be larger than that on land, even with the same zoom effect. Also, photos taken under the water will be darker than those on land. There are many options out there for you to turn your dream of underwater photography into reality. If you were a professional diver, it would most certainly be worthwhile to purchase a top of the line underwater camera. If you are more interested in taking underwater pictures for fun, turn your existing digital camera into an underwater camera in a flash.
